A Thousand Words

As my last post suggests, I'm feeling a bit more cynical today than I usually do. So let's have some fun with photoshop, shall we? The picture above is how Al-Ahram, the state-run newspaper in Egypt, depicted the recent Mideast peace talks in D.C. Here we see Egyptian president Mubarak leading Obama, Netanyahu, Abbas, and King Abdullah down the hall to the East Room of the White House. The picture below is what actually happened:

Probably not as bad as Iran's photoshop debacle a few years back, but surely more obvious. I mean, that's Obama's house. Nobody's leading Obama around his own house. Except maybe Mrs. Obama.

The thing that I don't understand is the little details that have been changed, like the color of Obama's tie and the deletion of the tiles, columns, and decor of the room. Seems like a rush job. Anyway, one of Egypt's opposition groups pounced:

"This is what the corrupt regime's media has been reduced to," a statement on the group's website said. The state-owned press had "crossed the line from being balanced and honest," the statement continued.

Indeed.
